Talks with unions can 'absolutely'
begin with pay, says Chambers
Minister for Public Expenditure Jack
Chambers has said that pay can
"absolutely" be the starting point for
negotiations on a new public sector
pay deal, in a move senior union
officials said appeared to represent a
shift in position.
The comments came on eve of
Wednesday's public sector strike, in
which more than 300,000 workers are
expected to take part. Minister
